Easter Hymn Sing

* Prelude: Christ is Arisen — setting by Charles Callahan (b. 1951)

 * Christ the Lord is Risen again — ELH 344

* Responsive reading: Psalm 118 (selected verses)

Lectern side: The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.

Pulpit side: The right hand of the Lord is exalted; The right hand of the Lord does valiantly.

All: I shall not die, but live, And declare the works of the Lord.

Lectern: The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.

Pulpit: This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.

All: Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

 * Organ introduction — setting by Charles Callahan (b. 1951)

* How Rich, at Eastertide — ELH 349

* Responsive reading: Romans 6 (selected verses)

Lectern: Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death,

Pulpit: That just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father,

All: Even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Lectern: Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,

Pulpit: Knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more.

All: Death no longer has dominion over Him.

Lectern: For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all;

Pulpit: but the life that He lives, He lives to God.

All: Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

 * Organ introduction — setting by Jacob B. Weber

* Built on the Rock — ELH 211: 3, 6

 * Responsive reading: 1 Corinthians 15 (selected verses)

Lectern: And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!

Pulpit: If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.

All: But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

 * Now Christ is Risen — ELH 355

Left side: 1, 3, 5, 7  Right side: 2, 4, 6, 8  All 9-10

* Prayer (in unison):

Lord God, heavenly Father, You delivered Your Son for our offenses, and raised Him again for our justification: We beseech You, grant us Your Holy Spirit, that He may rule and govern us according to Your will; graciously keep us in the true faith, defend us from all sins, and after this life raise us to eternal life; through the same, Your beloved Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one true God, now and forever. Amen.

 * Organ introduction — setting by Jacob B. Weber

* All stand and sing: Awake, My Heart, with Gladness — ELH 341: 6, 8
