Opportunities for Involvement

We believe that music is a gift of God. We use that gift to reflect His glory, and to touch the lives of those around us. We believe and have seen the power of music to comfort, inspire, and to give expression to our deepest emotions. We have made use of music in its noblest calling as a bearer and servant of the good news of life and salvation in Christ. For all of those reasons music has been, and will remain, close to the heart of Bethany.

Opportunities for Involvement

Each year twenty-five percent of the students at Bethany participate in a music activity.  Students representing many majors are involved in Concert Choir, Concert Band, Mary Martha Singers, Handbell Choir, Jazz Band, String Band, Chamber Choir, Chapel Brass, and Men’s Chorus. Learn more about our bands and choirs.

Student-led groups such as the flute choir, clarinet choir, drum line and “garage bands” of various flavors fill the Ylvisaker Fine Arts Center with the sound of music at all hours. Students who study music privately are invited to present their art in formal recitals throughout the year, and many of the music students prepare music for daily chapel services.

Each year in February the music and theatre departments collaborate in the Choraliers production of a fully staged classic Broadway musical or an operetta, including works of Gilbert and Sullivan, Herbert, Gershwin and Kern.
Many student musicians participate in the annual band and choir tour, but the largest presentation of the year are the Christmas at Bethany concerts that take place during the first week in December. Several music performances are “live streamed” on the college website, and are archived on the Bethany Youtube channel.
