Job Description 

Today’s college student comes with a number of needs. For some, those needs require a little help from someone that has the patience, understanding and guidance to help them succeed. Might you be that person?

Bethany Lutheran College seeks a person to serve 25 hours per week as the Academic Success Coordinator (ARC). The ARC Coordinator oversees the Academic Resource Center, where students can come to receive additional academic help from tutoring services, to peer instruction, to specialized help with defined 504 plans. Additional duties include the following:

  • Meeting individually with students on academic warning and probation regarding academic planning, goal setting, and skill development to increase the likelihood of their academic retention and graduation.
  • Developing and maintaining trusted working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Working sensitively and diplomatically to address complex and confidential student needs.
  • Managing BLC tutors and tutoring services.
  • Serving as a member of the Student Success Committee.
  • Determining the accommodation needs of individual students, review of documentation and accommodation history, and consider fundamental aspects of coursework and curriculum, all in compliance with applicable law.
  • Documenting and maintaining student records in compliance with federal law.
  • Collaborating with other campus support services (Residential Life, Dean of Students, Registrar, Facilities, Athletic Training, Student Activities) to facilitate student access, support, and retention.
  • Serving faculty partners in arranging accommodations through communication of policies and expectations as well as consult with faculty about unique student needs.
  • Reporting and responding to faculty-generated academic flags through the Bethany Cares Reporting service and the Student Success Committee.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in related field with demonstrated experience in advising, counseling, tutoring, and/or disability services.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students with disabilities in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990/2008) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1973).
  • An understanding of strengths-based advising approach.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student development.
