Name: Kalie Staples
Hometown: Slayton, Minnesota
BLC Class of: 2012
Major: psychology major, sociology minor
Campus activities: residential life programs, The Scroll (student newspaper), and Scholastic Leadership Society
Career aspiration: I’m applying to the University of Minnesota Educational Psychology doctoral program. I’ve always enjoyed school and this will give me the opportunity to help children who struggle with learning find that same joy. Eventually I would like to become a university professor. I studied abroad in Wellington, New Zealand last summer working at Clyde Quay Primary School as a student teacher. This gave me a new view on issues that the education system faces in general, as well as in a different culture.
Your take on Bethany professors: Bethany professors truly care about teaching and it shows. They are always willing to go above and beyond (whether that means coming in early or staying late) to help you understand the material.
Best Bethany experience: I love RA training at the Heartwood Conference Center in Wisconsin. It’s a fun time to meet people you may not have had a class with or talked with before. The first day we usually go canoeing down a river and it’s indescribable.
