Job Description

Bethany Lutheran College, a Christian liberal arts college owned and operated by the Evangelical Lutheran Synod, invites applications for a full-time, nine-month faculty position in the computer science department beginning July 1, 2019. 

This is an extremely exciting position. As the first full time faculty to be hired in the Computer Science program, you will play a critical role defining how the study of computing at Bethany develops and engages across the liberal arts. A curriculum has been developed and approved by the faculty and the Board of Regents. Your task is to grow a program that embraces and supports all of Bethany’s mission and goals for our students. You have the opportunity to prepare them for life in a digital world through your teaching, scholarship, and mentorship. 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in computer science (or closely related field) required; doctorate degree is preferred; ABD considered with a plan in place to complete the terminal degree
  • Passion for teaching
  • Experience in instructional course design in a higher education environment.  Experience with current and advanced topics in computer science. Examples include algorithms and data structures, artificial intelligence, computer architecture, or bioinformatics.
  • Active church membership in Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) or Wisconsin Evangelical Synod (WELS)

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and background; comprehensive benefit program.

  • Statement of teaching philosophy,
  • Two current letters of professional recommendation with contact information,

  • Academic transcripts (may be unofficial; if an employment offer is made, certified transcripts for all college-level education will be required)
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lift, pull, push, up to 50 pounds
