Colin Mustful book signing

Tuesday, November 5, 2013 - 4:00pm to 5:00pm

Colin Mustful, a 2003 BLC alumnus, will be celebrating the release of his first book with a signing at Bethany’s Memorial Library on Tuesday, November 5 at 4 p.m. Thy Eternal Summer combines eyewitness accounts of the U.S.-Dakota Conflict of 1862 through the eyes of the son of an old missionary, Alfred Riggs. Mustful describes the book: "Alfred grew up among the Sioux Indians of the Minnesota River Valley and he developed a profound respect for their people and established a near kinship tie to their spokesman and leader, Little Crow. When war broke out in the summer of 1862, Alfred was torn between the safety of his family, friends, and counterparts, and his deep understanding and tolerance for the grievances and traditions of his Indian neighbors. As death, hate, greed, justice, and vengeance unfold before him, he is motivated by valor and a brazen struggle for peace that nearly leads to his death and alienates him from his father."

Mustful is a Minnesota author and historian. After his time at Bethany, he went on to earn a Master of Arts in History from Minnesota State University, Mankato. He has an extensive background in Native American history, and he has studied the subjugation and extinguishment of the Native American as well as the reasoning and justifications for such actions by those who have sought to expel, erase, and destroy western indigenous cultures.
