* Leader: Let us all pray.

Lord Jesus Christ, bright Sun of the world, On thefortieth day of your Life, a Life without beginning or end,

You were presented in Your temple.  Divine Perfection, Rainbow of Redemption, Doorway to the Promised Land.

You commanded the building of that temple.  You commanded the sacrifices of the tabernacle and the temple.

You revealed yourself as the mercy seat of God, the Lamb of God. At the blood-sprinkled Ark of the covenant. At the manger in Bethlehem. And on the Holy Cross, the tree of life, you presented your innocence Forme.

And your perfection Forme.  Jesus, the Lord and Lamb of the temple, Simeon’s Consolation and Anna’s Redemption,  Enter the most holy place of my heart and mind So that I will know That my death will be peaceful, and that eternal life is mine.

Let the Shadow of Your cross protect me from the power of sin and the fear of death. Today and forevermore. Amen.

All: When the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary brought Jesus to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord; Men: It is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord” Women: And they offered a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” Men: Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, All: And the Holy Spirit was upon him. Women: And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. Men: And Simeon came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the Law, All: he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said, Men: “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.” All: And His father and His mother marveled at what was said about their Son. Women: Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, Men: “Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed Women: And a sword will pierce through your own soul also, Men: So that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.” All: And there was a prophetess, Anna. Women: She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, Men: And then as a widow until she was eighty-four. All: She did not depart from the temple, Women: worshiping with fasting and prayer All: night and day. Men: And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God Women: And to speak of Him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem. All: And when they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth.
