At Bethany Lutheran College, we do everything that we can to meet the needs and fulfill the expectations of our transfer students. We take special steps to ensure that the transfer process is a smooth one and that our new students feel like welcomed members of the Bethany community. We encourage transfer students to apply for admission to Bethany Lutheran College with entry possible in the fall or spring semester. We have prepared a list of the most frequently asked questions to assist you in your transfer to Bethany.

Does Bethany accept the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum?

Yes. Transfer students who have completed the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum or an Associate in Arts degree from an accredited institution are considered to have met Bethany's general education requirements.

Does Bethany accept credits earned at a technical or vocational institutions?

In some instances credits may be granted for completed, related study at a technical or vocational institution. Applicants must submit a transcript to the registrar for review.

How many credits can be applied to lower-division course work?

A maximum of 65 transferred semester credits in lower-division course work will be accepted toward a bachelor's degree at Bethany Lutheran College.

How many credits must be earned at Bethany Lutheran College to complete my B.A. degree?

No matter how many credits you transfer in, to receive a B.A. from Bethany Lutheran College you must complete your senior year and the last 33 credit hours on campus.

Will I need to send in my high school transcript or standardized test scores?

If you have not completed one year of college (30 semester credits) at an accredited institution, high school transcripts and ACT/SAT I test scores will be required.

Are scholarships available to transfer students?

Transfer students will be eligible for one of three academic awards: Bethany Transfer Grant: $5,000 - GPA of at least 3.0 and at least one year of college; Luther Transfer Scholarship: $6,500 - GPA of at least 3.0 with 65 credits or an Associate's Degree;Presidential Transfer Scholarship: $8,000 - GPA of at least 3.5 with 65 credits or an Associate's Degree

What are the admission requirements for transfer students?

Bethany Lutheran College requires a 2.0 cumulative grade point average for all incoming transfer students.

What should a transfer student know about the graduation requirements of the B.A. program at Bethany Lutheran College?

To graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) from Bethany Lutheran College a student must:

  1. fulfill Bethany's general education requirements;
  2. complete a major, fulfilling its specific requirements;
  3. earn a minimum of 128 credits, of which at least 42 will be from upper division (three and four-hundred level);
  4. achieve an overall G.P.A. of at least 2.0;
  5. pass a total of 10 credits of upper division Religious Studies courses in the junior and senior years;
  6. pass one year of one foreign language;
  7. pass at least one course flagged for cultural awareness, and;
  8. complete the senior year (the last 33 semester credit hours) on campus.

Are students required to live on campus?

Bethany's Residential Policy is that all full-time students are required to reside on campus for the first two academic years, unless the student lives with parents or guardians while attending Bethany Lutheran College, or is married. Some exceptions to these policies may be considered for transfer students.
