Phil joined the Physics Department and Religious Studies Department in the fall of 2011. Phil currently serves as Secretary of the Bethany Lutheran College Faculty Assembly, is a member of Sigma Pi Sigma national physics honor fraternity and is an active clergyman of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod.
In 1992, Phil was second author of “Electronic structure of alkaline-earth selenides.” in Physical Review B.
From 1999 to 2011, Phil served parishes in Florida and Indiana and in the mission field in Illinois. During that time, he wrote several articles published in the Lutheran Sentinel and a paper published in the Lutheran Synod Quarterly. Phil has given presentations at local and regional pastoral conferences and has served as chaplain for the 2011 Convention of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod. Phil served from 2003 to 2011 on the ELS Committee for Integrating Technology.
Phil is actively researching lensless optics, the relationship between science and theology, and the usefulness of semantic domain research in New Testament exegesis.
