Chad Heins (Assistant Professor of Biology) has reason to be excited about the latest news from the Bethany Hawkwatch field site. The Bethany Hawkwatch counted its 4,100th raptor of the fall season on Friday, November 22, when a Bald Eagle passed over the raptor counters. Bethany Lutheran College is extremely grateful for all of our annual supporters and especially for the 119 alumni and friends who generously donated a gift during the 2013 Give to Bethany Day!    Give to Bethany Day, held on Thursday, November 14, 2013, was a special 24-hour fundraising event. The Bethany men's golf team is no stranger to winning an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference championship. As we prepare for move in day for the 2013-14 school year, our resident assistants (RAs) went through fire safety training with the Mankato Fire Department on August 23, 2013. This training teaches all of the RAs the basics of using an extinguisher and how to determine what is the best method for putting a small fire out. Mankato, Minn. - Hall of Fame inductions are nothing new to Art Westphal. For nearly 30 years, Westphal has served Bethany Lutheran College in a number of capacities including athletic director, head baseball and basketball coach, admissions counselor, and his current role of chief advancement officer. Bethany Lutheran College announces the hiring of Don Westphal as the new Director of Athletics. If there is anybody who is in-tune with the Bethany Lutheran community it is Westphal. Dr. Peter Harstad (55) is the recipient of the 2013 Bethany Lutheran College Distinguished Alumnus Award. Harstad, the eldest of ten children, was born on November 13, 1935, to the Reverend Adolph and Martha (Tjernagel) Harstad.  Harstad is an accomplished historian with several books and publications to his credit, has taught at the collegiate level, and directed two State Historical Societies.
