Community Involvement
The business administration major supplements traditional learning with valuable community work. Below are some activities from fall semester business classes that gave our students practical experience working with businesses in the Mankato community.
Sport and Event Marketing
This class conducted two successful open houses for local businesses. The students planned all aspects of these events from designing and mailing invitations to ordering food and taking out the garbage. They also contacted 30 local businesses and made sales presentations to them for commercials that air during the BLC Studios hockey broadcasts. Additionally, this class helped promote and implement activities at a home basketball game.
Principles of Management
Students in this course worked in small teams to plan and implement projects that support VINE Faith in Action, a network of faith congregations, organizations and individuals providing volunteer assistance in Blue Earth and Nicollet Counties of southcentral Minnesota. Bethany students worked on promotional and fundraising events. They raised nearly $2,000 after expenses while promoting VINE through new marketing avenues. Activities included:
- A 5K Turkey Trot
- Selling bricks at local churches
- A Jersey Mike's fundraiser
- Making and selling apple pies at Hy-Vee
- Creating a promotional video for VINE
- A flapjack fundraiser at Applebee's
- Planning a dodge-ball tournament
- Assisting with the Looney Lutherans social
