Where can I connect to the network?
Students living in the residence halls can use their room's network jack. All students can use Bethany's wireless network (network name: "student") for access. The wireless network is available in all residence halls and academic buildings, with limited coverage in non-academic buildings and outdoors. Additionally, there are network jacks available in some classrooms and common areas There is no charge for network access.
What does my computer need to make a wired connection to the network?
To connect your computer to a network jack, you will need an Ethernet cable, which can be purchased in the campus bookstore. Plug one end of the cable into the Ethernet adapter in your computer, and the other end into your room's Ethernet jack. Be careful not to inadvertently plug the Ethernet cable into the phone jack; an Ethernet cable may look like a phone cable, but it is slightly wider, and has eight connection pins, while a phone cable has only four.
What does my computer need to make a wireless connection to the network?
To make a wireless connection to the Bethany network, your computer will need a wireless network card or adapter installed. Most newer laptop computers come with one pre-installed; most desktop computers do not have one. Wireless networking is available in all residence halls and most areas of the academic buildings.
What are the minimum requirements for a Windows PC to connect to the Bethany network?
Your Windows PC needs to be running Windows XP, Vista, 7, or 8 in order to be given access to our network and the Internet. Windows 2000, ME, 98, 95, and any earlier versions will NOT be able to connect; please contact the Help Desk for details. You are required to have current antivirus software installed on your computer in order to be able to connect to the network. We use different methods to ensure the safety of our network which may include verifying the software installed on your own computer.
