Bill Bukowski has been one of the artists involved in the Arts and Healing Program at Children's Hospitals of Minnesota. He has recently completed fourteen paintings for the second floor family waiting rooms at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis and four paintings and two murals for the Children's Hospital in St. Paul. The paintings include images of children and Minnesota landscapes.
Bukowski has returned to the classroom after being on his fourth sabbatical in the fall of 2011. He and his wife Sherri ('74) spent part of the fall semester in Rome, Italy and also toured Athens, Greece and some of the art museums in New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. Visiting churches, Roman ruin sites and museums kept the couple busy in the Eternal City. Bukowski also had time for painting, writing and research.
Bukowski is currently working on a series of paintings based on film noir images. Many of the paintings are monochromatic and feature dramatic lighting and costumes from Bethany.
It has been 10 years as of June 2012 since Bukowski worked with Jim Shugrue to finish the Creation fresco in the Marvin G. Meyer Hall of Science and Mathematics. Bukowski studied fresco technique in Ceri, Italy, and met Shugrue while taking the fresco workshop.
This year will mark Bukowski's 32 year of teaching at Bethany Lutheran College. He has seen the college and program grow extensively since 1980.
