Alumnus, Study Abroad Profile: Matt Behmer
Matt lived in the Callao District of Lima, Peru, teaching English at B. Group Colegio as a volunteer for one month in the summer.
I shared an apartment a few blocks from my school with some fellow teachers. I ate most of my meals at a host family's house.
What effect did studying abroad have on your life?
Teaching abroad was a great experience and huge blessing to me. I was able to see a different part of the world and live immersed in a different culture. It allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself. I learned more about the Peruvian culture, improved my Spanish, and gained valuable teaching experience in a foreign country.
Describe your best memory from this experience.
The best memory from my experience was getting to travel to the mountains with a Peruvian pastor to visit Lutheran mission congregations.
