• Round 3: (Case Study) When Tammy was 9 years old, she was diagnosed with cancer. The fire department of her small town went out and raised over $17,000.00 to help pay her bills. However, after financial assistance and treatment, Tammy's family never used the money. It is 15 years later and Tammy is now a single mother of two. A retiring fire fighter tells her that they still have a bank account with the money in it. With interest, there is now nearly $30,000.00 in the account. Tammy's cancer has been cured and she would like the money that was raised in her name. She would pay off her credit card bills and the mortgage on her home (roughly $20,000) and then donate the rest to other charities. People in the small town hear of her plans, and many think she is being greedy and taking advantage of the town's generosity. In this case the Government must defend the position: Tammy is morally right in her claim to the money.
