Who May Borrow
- Students, faculty, and staff of BLC
- BLC alumni and emeriti
- Students and patrons from other PALS libraries with a valid ID from their institution
- Community members with valid ID
- All notices are sent electronically.
- Fine notices will be sent midterm starting spring 2013.
- Loan notices are sent 2-3 days before an item is due.
- Overdue notices are sent the day after an item is due.
Overdues, Fines, and Other Charges
- Patrons are responsible for all items checked out on their cards. This includes any replacement fees if the item is damaged or lost.
- Items that are assumed lost (long overdue) will result in the patron being assessed for the cost of each overdue item plus a NON-REFUNDABLE handling fee of $10.00 per item. A flat fee based on average item costs is usually charged but the library reserves the right to charge more for more expensive items. If the item is returned, the item cost will be waived but the $10.00 per item handling fee will remain.
- The fine for overdue 2-hour, 4-hour and 1 day reserve items is $.50 per hour after the first overdue hour, retroactive to the due time.
- The fine for overdue 3-day and 1-week reserve items is $2.50 per day.
- Lack of response to billing notices will result in a block of the patron’s borrowing privileges at the library.
- When the cost of overdue items reaches or exceeds $75.00 a block will be placed on the patron’s borrowing privileges. Borrowing privileges will be reinstated when the patron returns the items or the payment has been made.
- Student charges not paid by the end of the academic term or the date of a student’s withdrawal will be subtracted from the student's security deposit.
- Transcripts will be withheld until fines are paid.

Items NOT available for renewal include:
- DVDs and Videos
- Juvenile Books
- Music CDs
- Reserve Items

Community User Policies
In order to allow maximum use of the computers for the students, faculty and staff of Bethany Lutheran College, community users are allowed access at one computer which is set up near the entrance of the library.
Borrowing/Usage of Non-Book Materials
Community users are responsible for providing their own materials and supplies for working on school or personal work projects. If an office equipment or supply item is not located on the table next to the photocopier, the library is not required to provide that item. These items include but are not limited to: construction paper, scissors, glue, markers, or other project related materials.
Exam Proctoring Policy
- Current BLC students enrolled in coursework at another institution (No Fee)
- BLC Alumni enrolled in coursework at another academic college or university (No Fee)
General public enrolled in coursework at another college or university ($25 per exam.)
Payment in cash or check made to Bethany Memorial Library. Pay at circulation desk.
Library staff is available to proctor on a limited basis. Please call to determine availability and schedule a testing time. Call Alyssa Inniger at 507-344-7874 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a proctored exam.
General public must make an appointment at least TWO WEEKS prior to testing.
- The STUDENT is responsible for verifying the library facility meets their institution’s requirements before having the test sent.
- A list of test taking materials, supplies, and tools allowed must be signed and sent by the course instructor.
- The STUDENT must call prior to the testing date to ensure the library has received the exam.
- A valid photo I.D. must be presented at the time of the test and student is required to provide all needed test taking supplies.
- Postage, photocopies, and any other costs associated with the test are the responsibility of the student.
- The library will not retain a copy of the test.
- Library staff proctors cannot monitor a student continuously during the exam but will check on the student periodically.
- The library cannot guarantee a completely quiet and/or private environment.
- The library cannot accommodate tests that require special equipment or software and reserves the right to refuse proctoring service if testing requirements exceed staff or facility capabilities.

Printing and Copies
Study Carrel and Study Room Policies
Five of the upstairs study carrels are available on a first come, first served basis. The remaining carrels can be reserved for senior seminar students and upperclassmen working on long-term projects. Any additional requests will be placed on a waiting list.
- Students accept the risk of leaving their items (papers, ILL items, library books, etc.) in a publicly accessible space.
- Students must check out all library books left in their carrel. Students may choose to have library items re-secured by the desk staff, but then they must also remember to have it un-secured when leaving the library with the item.
- Students are responsible for keeping the space tidy.
- Students will inform staff when they are done using the carrel so that those on the waiting list can be notified.
Students cannot reserve study rooms; these rooms remain first-come, first-serve.
These rooms are not to be used for music practice or any other type of activity that would disrupt others from studying.
- Study Room D is the only locked study room; it houses a TV system that patrons can hook up to a laptop for collaborative presentations. The key can be checked out at the circulation desk for 4 hours at a time.
