Vocal music plays an important part of daily life for many Bethany students.
Whether singing a hymn in chapel, attending an afternoon choir rehearsal, or
studying opera techniques, a student interested in singing will have many opportunities
at Bethany. Students who pursue liberatory education in the music department will be equipped to function as creative individuals who are capable of executing skills which contribute to the ongoing work of making music, and the larger work of living the competent Christian life.
Bethany offers bachelor of arts degrees in
music
and
church music
. The music degrees are built upon the understanding that music, with all of
the arts, derives its purpose and strength from its role as a servant of Christ
and His church.
Choral Opportunities at Bethany
Bethany maintains three choral groups, each of which offers a different experience.
The Concert Choir is typically the largest of the choral groups with 50-70 students participating
each year. In addition to touring, the auditioned SATB group performs for Fall Festival, Reformation, Christmas at Bethany, Commencement, and the Spring Tour in May.
Mary Martha Singers
is a four-part women's chorus. The group, which consists of 20-30 members, performs
regularly both separately and alongside the Concert Choir.
Bethany's
Choraliers
presents a lyric-theatre production each February. Beginning rehearsals in the
fall semester, Choraliers typically has 30-40 participants.
