Construction progress

The new Rudolph E. Honsey Hall is currently scheduled for completion by March 31, 2010. The various departments that will call the building home will use the summer months to move into the new space so that classes can be held in Honsey Hall beginning with the fall semester 2010.

While the Minnesota winter of 2008-09 was especially harsh the summer provided a good construction season allowing the contractors to catch up and even be a bit ahead of schedule. October was cold and wet which slowed some of exterior work but the sidewalks have been poured and once a few last windows are installed the work will move inside. Most of the building has been painted, ceilings are being installed, and other finish work will take place over the winter allowing most work to be done by March. The striking building will mark the new entrance to the Bethany campus and is visible from several blocks away as you approach the campus from the east.

About the project

Rudolph E. Honsey Hall is a 66,000 square foot academic building, which will house the departments of communication, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and religion. The Bethany Lutheran College Board of Regents has unanimously approved naming the building in honor of retired Bethany professor Rudolph Honsey.

Honsey taught at Bethany for nearly forty-seven years. He began his career at BLC in 1945 and taught full time until 1991. He continued to teach part time until 1998. At Bethany, Honsey taught a variety of classes and subjects including history, Greek, Latin, Norwegian, and religion as well as Hebrew at Bethany Seminary. Honsey was highly respected by his students and colleagues.

Professor Honsey and his wife of fifty-eight years, Betty, reside in Mankato.
