Graph each set of ordered pairs on the same coordinate plane. State the domain and range of each relation. Is the relation a function?
 {(0,-15), (5,-20), (0,-1), (12,9)}

Graph the ordered pairs.
Plot the individual points.
Domain: {0,5,12}
List the set of x-coordinates
Range: {-15,-20,-1,9}
List the set of y-coordinates
This relation is not a function.
For two reasons:
1) There are two ordered pairs with the same x-coordinate and different y-coordinates.
2) It fails the Vertical Line Test.

Substitute (r-8) in place of x in function g
Simplify
Use the Vertical Line Test to determine if this relation is a function.
 
This is not a function. The Vertical Line Test fails here. A vertical line easily intersects this relation in more than one point.
