Art Lecture and Reception, Rick Love, Heather Nameth Bren, and Kjellgren Alkir

Thursday, September 29, 2011 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm
Ylvisaker Fine Arts Center Gallery

Rick Love, Heather Nameth Bren, and Kjellgren Alkire discuss their mixed media work on display in the gallery of the Ylvisaker Fine Arts Center from September 29 – October 27. All three are on the art faculty of Northwestern College in Roseville. A reception will follow the lecture and the public is warmly invited to attend.

This exhibit of three artists explores the cultural histories and social dynamics of mystical authorities. The artworks in this exhibit interrogate human behavior in relationship to power, value and the supernatural. Using graphic, sculptural and electronic media, Oracle wonders (among other things) why so many of us claim to have a corner of truth, while others consistently seek bad advice. With particular attention given to kitsch, this exhibit makes connections between human development (or hegemonic design) of cultural preferences and spiritual supremacy. Viewers are encouraged to “come for the clichés, stay for the carpet.”
