Bethany Men's Basketball Alumni Event
With Coach Ron Younge, Coach Art Westphal, and your former teammates in attendance, this event will be a fantastic opportunity for you to revisit the special relationships which you developed during your days as a player in the Bethany men’s basketball program. It will also give you a chance to connect with the 2013-2014 Vikings men’s basketball players and coaching staff, who currently are attempting to carry on the proud tradition of Bethany basketball that you helped to establish. Besides catching up with old friends and getting to know the current members of the program, you will have the opportunity to play the game that we all love by participating in one of the 2013 alumni games.
We are going to have two separate games that take place on November 9. The first game of the alumni doubleheader will take place at 2 p.m. This contest will pit alumni against alumni, with Younge coaching one team and Westphal coaching the other. This game will be as competitive as the players and the coaches decide to make it, but will most likely be a bit more relaxed than the second game of the afternoon.
The second game of the alumni doubleheader will begin 25 minutes after the conclusion of the first game, or at approximately 4 p.m. The NCAA allows for a contest against alumni each year as one of three chances to play outside competition before the season opener. This competitive game will be important for the preparation of the 2013-14 team, whose season opens up just six days later at St. Olaf. Coach Younge and Coach Westphal will coach the alumni team of 12-18 individuals against the current Vikings team. We will probably play three 20 minute halves, in order to give all of the current players the opportunity to compete.
You are welcome to attend without participating. We simply want as many alumni as possible to partake in this event. No matter what years you played and for which coaches you played, you are all a part of our proud Bethany basketball tradition, and we’d be honored to have you join us for some fun, memories and to rekindle your competitive nature. If you want to RSVP to play in the alumni vs. alumni game, alumni vs. BLC varsity game, or just want to come watch the games, you can email, text, or call Greg Holzhueter at Greg.Holzhueter@blc.edu, (507) 327-2127. We hope to see you on November 9 for a great afternoon and evening!
