Science Symposium Join us for the Science Symposium Tuesday, February 9, at 7pm in MH 101. Ron Smith, will discuss "Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy." BLC alum Leah Preus, speaking on "Understanding the role of genetics in clinical outcomes," has been re-scheduled for Monday, February 22.
Bethany Auxiliary Meeting The Mankato chapter of the Bethany Auxiliary will meet on Tues., Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in Honsey Hall 239. Amanda Quist will present "Community Television at BLC." Mankato public access TV is operated by BLC, and this talk will cover the basics of public access TV, Bethany's involvement, new community coverage, and more. EVERYONE is welcome to attend the presentation. Following the presentation the auxiliary will hold their business meeting. Membership is open to any women interested in supporting BLC by staying informed of BLC events and participating in fundraising for BLC student projects.
Volunteer Opportunity - Capstone Literacy Center The Capstone Literacy Center is seeking volunteer tutors for 45 minute sessions one day a week for 10 weeks to assist struggling readers in grades 1-5. Tutoring starts Feb. 8 and ends April 18. No experience is required as Capstone staff trains volunteers. Available times are Mon. 4:00-4:45 in North Mankato; Tues. 3:15-4:00 at Lincoln Center in Mankato; and Wed. at either 3:00-3:45 or 4:00-4:45 in North Mankato. IM Racquetball Signups IM singles racquetball sign-ups are open. Email Renee Tatge at renee.tatge by Wednesday 2/10/16 to get on the schedule. Games must be completed within a scheduled time frame but actual game times will be left up to each pair of opponents. Schedule will be emailed out by Monday 2/15/16.

Work Study Positions Available Several positions are still available for the American Reads and Counts work study program. Candidates earn $9 per hour tutoring elementary level children in local schools. Days and times are flexible. "Above Board" public reading Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 7 pm in the YFAC's Lee Theater - Experience the first public reading of the new romantic comedy "Above Board", written by BLC's own Emily Kimball and Peter Bloedel. Auditions will be held on Thursday, Feb. 18. More details to come on the theatre call board in the YFAC!
REU Informational Session Do you have plans for your summer yet? If not, consider applying for a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) to travel to another university and get paid to help faculty carry out their research! Tim Wildauer will be hosting an REU informational session following the BOSS meeting this Wednesday, February 10th in MH 101 at 8 p.m. He is able to answer questions and offer application advice, with an emphasis on math and science REUs. Hope to see you there!
Speech Team Success The Bethany Speech Team competed at the speech and debate tournament at St. Cloud State University this past weekend. Jacob Schneider took 3rd place in Persuasive Speaking. Zeffie Woods took 5th place in the Interpretation of Children's Literature. Jeff Olsen and Rachael Melby (at her first tournament!) also represented Bethany well. The team will head to Concordia College in Moorhead on Feb. 19-21 to compete in the Minnesota State Tournament.
Valentines for sale this week! Purchase a Valentine's Day card and candy for that special someone. The Psych Club will be selling Valentine's Day cards and candy Wednesday through Friday (Feb. 10-12) in Old Main from 11:30-1:00. The cost is $.50 for 1 or 5 for $2.00. All proceeds will be donated to CADA. Valentine's Day cards will be delivered to the mailboxes on Friday. Spread some Valentine's Day cheer and support a good cause!

Men's and Women's Tennis Another busy weekend for Bethany tennis. The men's team will play UW-Eau Claire on Friday night at Gustavus. On Saturday, the men's team will play Hamline at 2 p.m. in White Bear Lake. The women's team will play Hamline on Saturday at 2 p.m. followed by a match against Mount Marty at 6:30 p.m. Go Vikings
Indoor Track and Field The men's and women's indoor track and field team will compete at Carleton College on Saturday, February 13th. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Go Vikings!
Basketball on the Road The Bethany basketball teams will travel to North Central on Friday night and Northwestern on Saturday afternoon for two Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Games. Check out blcvikings.com for game times and live stat links. Go Vikings!
