Confirmation: Form One

Beloved in the Lord: You have been baptized into the Christian faith, and you have been instruction in the teaching of that Christian faith. May the Lord through His Holy Spirit so enliven your hearts that you may be able to witness a sincere confession, both before God and in the presence of this congregation.

Do you renounce the devil, and all his works, and all his ways?

      Answer: I do.

Do you believe in God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?

      Answer: I do.

Do you intend by the grace of God to continue steadfast in this covenant of your baptism, even to the end?

Answer: I do so intend, by the grace of God.

Give me your hand as a sign of your promise.

__________, may the Triune God who in Holy Baptism adopted you as His child, and has made you an heir of eternal life, preserve you in the grace of your baptism, and grant you steadfastness in your faith to the salvation of your soul. Amen.

A confirmation verse may then be given to each.

Peace be with you.

Almighty and merciful God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, by Your Holy Spirit You begin and perform the good work in us: we thank You that in Baptism You have granted these young servants of Yours the gift of regeneration; we thank You that through the enlightenment of Your Word You have enabled them to acknowledge Your saving grace. Finish what You have begun, we pray You. Grant them an ever-increasing knowledge of the salvation You have prepared in Christ. They are weak; strengthen them with Your power. They are to face a dangerous world; guide them with Your counsel. They are to experience many temptations; help them to resist and to overcome. In every hour of need and of difficulty, comfort them with Your Holy Spirit. Help them to watch and pray, and to seek diligently in Word and Sacrament the nourishment of Your grace, to the end that, in sanctification of the Spirit, together with Your faithful people, they may before all the world, in word and deed, confess You with the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven; Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil; For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
