Business Alumna Profile
Brittany is part of the Building Future Leaders program at United Healthcare in Minnetonka, Minnesota.
WHAT YOU DO • • • Building Future Leaders is made up of 10 individuals that have recently graduated from college. The program consists of three phases. The first phase is about becoming acclimated, meeting with leaders from within the organization, and learning the frontline of Benefit Operations that included a 15-week health advisor training. The second phase involves working on projects within Benefit Operations. As a cohort, we also receive training to help us with these projects including LEAN training and Six Sigma certification. In the third phase I will continue with the projects while also receiving leadership and managerial training. During this phase, my manager, my mentor, and I will begin to look at which part of Benefit Operations is the best fit for me.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU • • • I was drawn to this company and program for a couple of reasons. First, this program gives me the opportunity to be trained in leadership and then placed in a managerial role in a successful company. The missions and values of this organization also stood out to me. The mission is “Helping people live healthier lives” and the values are integrity, compassion, relationships, innovation, and performance. I wanted to make sure that I worked somewhere that I believed in the mission and values, and at United Healthcare this is the case.
HOW YOU WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE • • • I want to make a difference by accomplishing our organization’s mission. I feel it is extremely important to make sure people are receiving the healthcare they need. I also would like to continue to develop my leadership and managerial skills so I can help others to grow and develop as well.
HOW BETHANY HAS PREPARED YOU • • • The advice I would give to current students is to stay involved. Continue to volunteer, join clubs, and play sports, whatever it takes to stay involved. I would also advise you to utilize your resources. That’s what they are there for. Professors on campus as well as career services are there and willing to help connect you with professionals in order to open doors to internship and career opportunities. You just need to be proactive. And last, but definitely not least, do everything for the glory of God.
