Departing seniors Voss and Kahle led the way for women’s basketball Monday, March 16, 2009 Joseph Baer Mankato, Minn.—The Bethany women’s basketball team finished the 2008-09 season with a 10-15 record overall and 4-10 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Vikings just missed out on the UMAC post season tournament, but finished the season strong. In February, the team went on a three-game conference winning streak where they upset the then conference leading Minnesota-Morris on the road.
Seniors Eva Voss (North Mankato, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) and Lindsey Kahle (Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East) made a lasting impression on the season. Voss earned First Team All-Conference honors and the UMAC All-Defensive Team. Voss also reached 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds by season’s end. In the 2008-09 season, Voss led the team with 15.1 points and 11.9 rebounds a game. Kahle was also named to the UMAC All-Defensive Team and earned Honorable Mention All-Conference. Kahle reached 1,000 career points in her senior season and averaged 13 points per game and finished the year with a team leading 84 steals.
Voss and Kahle will be the lone departures going into next year’s season. The Vikings will look on a combination of a new class of recruits and the current developing team to fill the gap left by the team leaders.
Voss and Kahle named to women's basketball All-Conference Teams Tuesday, March 03, 2009 Greg Johnson, UMAC Sports Information Director ST. PAUL – 17 women’s basketball players from Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) institutions were named to the UMAC All-Conference First and Honorable Mention Teams on Tuesday, two days after Northland College claimed a season sweep, winning both the UMAC regular season and postseason tournament championships.
Northland was represented by two players on the all-conference list, as juniors Lindsey Hamm and Chelsea Lundgren earned first team honors. Hamm was named the UMAC Player of the Year as the top all-conference vote-getter following a season in which the guard had Top 10 finishes in points per game, field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage, assists per game and steals per game. Following last week’s UMAC finale, Hamm was named the conference tournament most valuable player.
Adding to Northland’s list of award recipients, LumberJills’ head coach Dan Roiger was chosen by his colleagues from around the UMAC as the Coach of the Year.
Katie DeWitt, a sophomore guard from Northwestern College, was selected as the league’s Newcomer of the Year following an effort that placed her second in the UMAC in points per game with 16.1.
Northland, the University of Minnesota, Morris, and Northwestern, the conference’s top three finishers in 2008-09, each had two players on the first team all-conference list. Minnesota, Morris and Northwestern each had another player on the honorable mention team, while Martin Luther College added to its one first team member with two honorable mention players.
Bethany Lutheran College boasted two of the five players who were chosen to represent the UMAC’s All-Defensive Team. Seniors Eva Voss and Lindsey Kahle were joined on the defensive squad by Martin Luther’s Lissa Babinec, Northwestern’s Kaelee Kendrick and Minnesota, Morris’ Jamie Rainey.

Women’s basketball ends season with close loss Saturday, February 21, 2009 Joseph Baer Ashland, Wis. – The Bethany women’s basketball team traveled to Northland College on Saturday afternoon to face off against the UMAC leading LumberJills. Bethany gained control of the game early on behalf of two Molly Erdman (Courtland, Minn./Nicollet) three point buckets. The Vikings then stretched their first half lead to as much as eight before entering half with a 31-29 advantage. Bethany then once again took advantage of the game, this time in the second half, when Eva Voss (North Mankato, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) drained a jumper to put the Vikings ahead by eight with just under 16 minutes to play. Unfortunately, Northland stormed back with a 12-2 run, regained the lead, and finished the last 1:31 of the game flawlessly, going perfect from the floor (2-2 FG) and from the line (6-6 FT).
Voss and Lindsey Kahle (Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East) finished off strong careers with great individual efforts Saturday. Women’s basketball: Kahle scores 26, comeback falls short Friday, February 06, 2009 Joseph Baer Mankato, Minn. – The Bethany women’s basketball team hosted Northwestern College on Friday night. The Vikings fell behind by as much as 16 on three different occasions but stormed back to make it a one possession ball game late, falling short in a 64-68 loss.
