Entry Requirements
English Curriculum

The English major consists of 33 credits. At least 18 credits must be 300-400 level courses. All courses listed on this page are three credits each, meaning that 11 courses are required, six of which must be upper-level.

All of the following courses are required for English majors:

  • CM320 Language, Thought, and Meaning
  • EN220 Non-Western Literature
  • EN306 Shakespeare
  • EN320 The English Language
  • EN350 Literary Criticism
  • EN495 Senior Seminar

Three of the following:

  • EN211 American Literature to 1865
  • EN212 American Literature to Present Day
  • EN304 British Literature: 17th and 18th Centuries
  • EN305 British Literature: Romantics and Victorians

One of the following:

  • CM208 Introduction to Creative Writing
  • CM225 Advanced Composition
  • CM308 Advanced Creative Writing

Choose a mimimum of two of the following electives:
