Church Music Curriculum

Students in the Church Music major will fulfill the general guidelines for the B.A. degree at Bethany. These general guidelines insure an experience that allows the student to develop a broadly based education program which complements the specialized study of church music.

Ensemble Music (8 credits)

  • Choraliers (lyric theatre)
  • Concert Choir
  • Mary Martha Singers (women's chorus)
  • Handbell Choir
  • Concert Band
  • Jazz Band
Electives (five required)

  • Music Communication and Technology
  • Music of the Renaissance and Baroque
  • Music of the Baroque and Classic Periods
  • Music of the Nineteenth Century
  • Music of the Twentieth Century
  • Counterpoint and Composition
  • Analysis and Composition


In addition, eight credits of private lessons and three credits of a supervised Church Music Practicum (taken during the final three semesters) are also required.
