All chemistry majors must complete a core of 34 hours of chemistry courses
plus six hours upper division chemistry electives, one year of calculus, and
one year of calculus-based physics. In addition, two semesters of science division
courses designed to expose the student to historical, philosophical, ethical,
and environmental issues encountered in the sciences must be completed. Any
chemistry or supporting course in which the student receives a grade of C- or
lower must be repeated.

A key feature of the chemistry program at BLC is the opportunity to engage
in active research with a faculty mentor. The undertaking of a research project
serves to bring together the ideas introduced in many courses while developing
the practical skills needed to pursue a career in a research field. The research,
which may be done over several semesters and summers, culminates in a formal
report or seminar
