The broad field social studies major consists of 57 credits, 12 of which also
fulfill general studies requirements, 18 in other lower-division courses, and
the remainder in upper-division courses.
History Requirements (21 credits)
A minimum of 21 upper-division history credits are required, including at least
three in American history, three in European history, three in pre-1815 history,
and the following:
- Introduction to Research in History (HI480) or Research Methods in
the Social Sciences (PY320)
- Senior Seminar in History (HI485)
Non-History Requirements (6 credits)
The student must successfully complete at least six credits from the following
non-history courses:
- Comparative Economic Systems (EC330)
- History and Philosophy of Science (SC320) or Technology in Society
(SC350)
- Educational Psychology and Human Relations (ED440)
- Drug Education (HL311)
- Christian Thought: Historical Perspectives, Contemporary Challenges (RS330)
- American Minorities (SO330)
- Religion and Society (SO345)
- Socio-political Issues and Thought (SO420)
